FINE AND PERFORMING ARTS The Office of Fine and Performing Arts provides equitable opportunities for all learners to gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence to become lifelong creators of the Arts. DPSCD K-12 Arts programs unlock student potential through dance, visual art, theater, and music. By utilizing the wealth of resources and quality instructors in the great city, students are connected with meaningful, student-centered college and career opportunities from a young age. The District’s Cultural Passport program, a collaborative initiative between arts industry partners and Detroit Public Schools Community District, brings students to cultural institutions throughout the city and beyond the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Opera, and the Detroit Institute of Arts. These opportunities enrich the whole child, giving them more experiences for creative thought. Students in the Fine and Performing Arts program have been highlighted across the city. Notably, students have performed at the NFL Draft, Fox Theatre for An Evening of Fine Arts, and had works displayed in the DPSCD Art Exhibition at the DIA. “I enjoyed getting to know other Auxiliaries at different schools and build bonds as one big family. The people made the experience beautiful.” ALL CITY MARCHING BAND STUDENT “Evening of Fine Arts is something we all look forward to every year. Selected by a panel of DPSCD art educators and DIA staff, the pieces span a wide range of media—including ceramics, painting, drawing, fiber art, sculpture, photography, digital art, jewelry, mixed media, and video—showcasing the depth and diversity of student creativity across the District. AN EVENING OF FINE ARTS (EFA) An Evening of Fine Arts (EFA) is an adjudicated event that provides a venue for the outstanding DPSCD visual and performing artists to display their talents and accomplishments to the public. The EFA is the highlight and culminating activity of the fine arts for the current school year. This rich annual experience displays the tremendous development of student talent - discovered, nurtured, and developed within DPSCD. The adjudication process is open to every DPSCD high school’s visual and performing arts program. 20 We Will Because We Can
