FACILITIES & CAPITAL PROJECT IMPROVEMENTS REBUILDING DPSCD BRICK BY BRICK Picking the Perfect School Guide - 2026-2027 | www.detroitk12.org 35 • Construction of the new Cody High School, scheduled to open in Fall 2027. • Construction of the new arts-focused PK-8 school in Southwest Detroit, scheduled to open in Fall 2027. • Construction of the new Paul Robeson Malcolm X Academy (PRMXA), scheduled to open in Fall 2027. • Construction of the new Pershing High School, scheduled to open in Fall 2027. • Expansion projects at Charles Wright Academy and Western International High School. • Athletic improvements at CMA High School and Henry Ford High School. • The transition of Davis Aerospace Technical High School back to Coleman A. Young International Airport is scheduled to open in Fall 2026. In Fall 2025, students began learning in the new Career Technical Education Annex at Southeastern High School, providing expanded opportunities in advanced manufacturing and industrial welding. COMING TO MORE SCHOOLS Beginning in 2026 and continuing through 2030, schools across the District will receive major facility improvements designed to enhance safety, comfort, accessibility, and the student learning experience. Planned improvements include: • New roofs and exterior building improvements • Heating and cooling system upgrades • Energy-efficient LED lighting • New windows and exterior doors • Accessibility and ADA improvements • Building automation and infrastructure modernization • Secure entrances and safety enhancements • Classroom additions and interior renovations • Athletic facilities, tracks, pools, and outdoor learning spaces Schools scheduled to receive major investments include Cass Technical High School, Renaissance High School, Central High School, Detroit School of Arts, Denby High School, Mumford High School, Mackenzie High School, Edmonson Elementary, Schulze Academy, Mason Academy, Vernor Elementary, Priest Elementary-Middle School, and many more schools across the city. These projects will continue through 2029, ensuring students benefit from modern learning environments regardless of where they attend school. Whether it is a new school building, upgraded classroom, modern science lab, renovated athletic facility, improved accessibility, or critical infrastructure improvement, every project is designed with students at the center.
